The discussion was around clouding. I'm not interested in importing/exporting various formats - I want to work on one format, through one application, across more than one platform, without worrying about syncing versions.

iWork doesn't allow that.
What application does? I guess PDF files can be opened across various platforms.

I don't do a lot of it but it is pretty easy to save a numbers file, or pages file as an excel or word file. A long time ago I remember trying to open a Word document from a PC on my Mac with Word and having trouble with it.
