I can't help but comment. Without being specific on my times, I think you'll get the
best performance by putting the diskbuff on a drive that is different than the data
directory - assuming a scsi controller and optimally Windows NT. I'm not sure how
multiple drives would help with an EIDE system unless each drive is on a separate
controller.

These comments are based on my belief that only scsi controllers will allow
concurrent i/o requests to separate drives and that NT is better than 95 at handling
that type of i/o.

I'm always ready to take a lesson so if someone finds fault with what I've said, then
please straighten me out.

You will get see similar improvement with EIDE regardless of whether they exist on separate controllers since the primary problem is accessing the data itself. Lack of bandwidth on the channel is not really a problem with EIDE. The additional ns of latency caused by the lower clock rate overall is neglibable. Obviously existing on separate controllers would be more optimal since EIDE doesn't allow concurrent DMA to multiple targets.

I agree on the NT front as long as were talking FAT. NTFS is not as fast for typical apps.

BTW: Brotnov Scan on my work Box. P6-200, 160M EDO, 2 gig UltraWide Barracuda with NT 4.0 NTFS with both CD Buffer and Data on same logical drive is 4:40. Slower than my P133 EIDE at home with 2 drives also running NT with NTFS. I do think my HD at work is in serious need of defrag though.
