Think of an American named Demming. Who made him famous. Who refused to embrace his quality theory. And who embraced him readily? Those who did are the manufacturing leaders in the world today.

I have been following the exchanges on this thread about education, debt, leaving something good for the next generation. While some think that we need need to leave an ignorant generation with a big surplus, there are others who think that we need to empower the next generation with the skills and knowledge to compete against the other countries.

Well, here is what is interesting. America is trying t o figure out how to count. Meanwhile the world has figured out not only how to count but also what counts. Based on their notion of what counts, they have built their infrastructure to withstand the competition of tomorrow's world. And they are well poised to wrest away the mantle of world leadership away from the US.

The story of Samsung and Apple says it all.
