Think of an American named Demming. Who made him famous. Who refused to embrace his quality theory. And who embraced him readily? Those who did are the manufacturing leaders in the world today.

I have been following the exchanges on this thread about education, debt, leaving something good for the next generation. While some think that we need need to leave an ignorant generation with a big surplus, there are others who think that we need to empower the next generation with the skills and knowledge to compete against the other countries.

Let me try to connect the dots for you: There is one area where the ideas of Deming were completely ignored, and that is the US education. We 1st World level of spending, and 3rd World level of quality.

Many people (including this thread) love to deal with platitudes, such as "invest in education", "invest in infrastructure" but none seems to bother checking the results.

Take a look at this chart and tell me if you see the problem:
