Well, how come the crazy government in Iran is still around?>

If we leave them alone... they WONT be. It just takes time... like Soviet Union, Iron curtain, and all that.

There are some simple concepts that are effective and leaving things alone is one but only when circumstances warrant leaving things alone.

If an entity is goofy, inappropriate, a nuisance, and we don't like what they are doing, then it might be a good idea just to leave them to their own eventual demise... because giving it any attention could be just the fuel needed to escalate the problems. There are many such instances in the world which are better left alone. Yes, ignore it and it will often just stop because better courses of action are bound to present themselves.

There are two exceptions. When an entity is disruptive or aggressive. We know that disruptive or aggressive agendas are goal oriented. Goal oriented disruptiveness or aggressiveness will not just exhaust itself and go away until it has accomplished it's goal. The demise of the Soviet Union was a result of economic collapse not of ignoring them. The Soviet Union was held in check around much of the world primarily because there was a very present danger in front of them which kept them from going a conquering. That danger was presented to them primarily by the USA. The only effective treatment to stop or control disruptive or aggressive behavior is the presence of an overwhelming force.
