So you’re feeling lucky after making mucho moolah in the market this week and want to make a big bet on the Super Bowl. But you’re not sure whether to go with the Ravens or Niners. Well, since your luck held in the market doesn’t it make sense to use the market-based reverse Super Bowl Indicator to pick the winner? Here’s how it works, as described at snopes.com:
“An alternate theory linking the Super Bowl to stock market performance in reverse fashion postulates that Wall Street's results can be used to predict the outcome of the game. According to this theory, if the Dow rises from the end of November until Super Bowl game day, the team whose full name appears later in the alphabet will win.”
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 7.32% YTD (vs. up 6.17% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 7.82% (vs. up 6.60% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index finished the week up 5.29% YTD (vs. up 4.31% YTD a week ago).
Boosted by a 20% allocation to CYTK, MOPGCW’s portfolio vaulted into the Contest lead with a 26.32% YTD gain. FILO’s portfolio, up 23.90% YTD moved into second place and RKRW’s portfolio, up 22.73% YTD, slipped back to third place.
At Friday's close, 35 of the 39 Contest portfolios were still in the black with 18 of the 39 beating the NBI.
