I'm not sure what the connection is in your statement, but it isn't just about "selling out ... [for] small amounts of money". Researchers who enter a particular field often do so because they have a predetermined belief. Take for example, Dr. Steven Rosenberg who was a pioneer in the field of immunotherapy. He started and continued his work through failure after failure because he believed in it based on one person's experience; and even he probably allowed himself to get well ahead of the science.

A person who enters the field of climate science probably already believes there is some kind of climate change, probably already believes it is man made, and that it is a crisis.

You don't radically alter the world's direction based on the "science" of people who made their minds up before they started studying the subject. Over time -- maybe 50 or 100 years -- the facts will come out, and if action needs to be taken perhaps the world will be in a better position to take action.
