The job of governments should be to help the owners of that government [the citizens] become wealthy. The citizens don't hire politicians to keep the citizens poor, working for low pay.

Viewed from the mentality of people who enjoy having slaves, it's disappointing, but decent people would be pleased to have a vast horde of poverty alleviated.
