We should always keep in mind the trite and true, as such lessons from history are often over-looked when newbies decide to try it again.

My point, to spell it out, in excruciating detail, is that behind "throw the rotters out" is the implied assumption that good old democracy will see things right in China, by some sort of magic. Of course you are right that those other options would not be good either. We are in the process of seeing democracy in action across the middle east and it is not clear that Saddam and Usay Hussein, Mubarak, Gaddafi, and the Assads were any worse than the "democratic" outcomes.
