I was 5 yrs old when I went to my first Seafair race. My family and I parked ourselves on the shore of Seward Park and enjoyed the day wandering around, watching the races and seeing the boats..............Miss Thriftway, the Bahardal.........and some of the drivers up close. My dad was very interested in hydroplanes and made a hobby of competing in limited races. I raced in the under 12 division one season, but honestly, I don't remember much. I was in a race on Silver Lake and Sammamish that yr, but I was a newby and didn't place. He went back to earn his Seaman 1st class designation in the Merchant Marines the next year, and gave it all up so that he could earn his Captain's license. Seafair and the Thunderbirds have had a long relationship. I can understand their decision and am confident something or someone else will fill the gap. From what I understand, the whole event could be in jeopardy.
