dead battery
Nightmare. Especially here, when it's below zero...

Which is why I depend on my dream mechanic. A few months ago he informed me - when I had him change my regular tires to winter ones - that my battery was no longer up to winter. No idea how old it was, came with the used, 2003 Element. Didn't think twice and bought a new one. Since then, been jumping neighbors, left and right.

A few rules I follow with all vehicles:

1. Check coolant and oil, regularly; change oil and its filter every 3k miles and coolant once a year, in the fall.
2. Check tire pressure, regularly.
3. Check all lights, regularly.
4. Wash the vehicle, regularly.
5. Listen to the trusty mechanic and follow his/her advice, to the letter.
6. Tune the radio to NPR when there is no pressure, and to some calming Motown station, when traffic gets hairy.
