I keep hearing how great the schools "used to be" and that's true.

The schools were better 40 years ago because many of the best and brightest women went into teaching. They didn't have a lot of other choices.

Around the mid-70's when everything started opening up for women they could go into whatever field they wanted to. Teaching was no longer at the top of the list.

I'm not sure, but I believe that's around the same time that the Unions started making major inroads into the profession. Unions are for equality, not competence.

Whether you have public schools or charter schools you need to have competent people and objective standards.
