PM, running the OS [XP SP3] from a cloned partition on the second HD: I've been doing this without much thought. The HD1 system partition is C: and the cloned partition on HD2 is F:

Running from F: works but - since a clone is an exact copy - the program locations are still C:
So, does a program opened from F: really run on C: ?

I could disconnect HD1 and find out, but won't because almost all programs I run from F: work.
[The exception is Handy Backup which I uninstalled and reinstalled from F: several times. I suspect it really reinstalled on C: because I just blithely accepted the install location]

This explanation confuses me even more superuser.com

You probably have thoughts on this, but please don't spend much time on a reply. I may give up cloning and revert to making images - or get a new computer :)
