And just for the record, if there is a liberal side to you, you hide it well.
Your records are tainted... but that is fixable.
What you refer to as left-wing politics has sunk far into ice cold lock step coercive control. An oppressive collective control that is subtle, nuanced, and filled with overbearing intimidation, which I don't consider as liberal in the genuine sense at all. What it is, is Orwellian and a simple political designation (definition d below). And if that is what you are referring to, then yes I want nothing to do with it.
lib·er·al adj. 1. a. Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. b. Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded. c. Of, relating to, or characteristic of liberalism.
d. Liberal Of, designating, or characteristic of a political party founded on or associated with principles of social and political liberalism, especially in Great Britain, Canada, and the United States.
My liberal side is not hidden, it just doesn't meet the collective thinking criteria insisted upon by left-wing politics. I consciously consider social issues on the basis of, what course of action would truly be beneficial and good (in the sense of just, kind, and advantageous). That isn't hard, it just requires an independent and free spirit approach to thinking things through. I have been at the forefront of many social change efforts during my life time. I'm not going to go through a laundry list for you but I have spent my life involved with social movements and protesting bad establishment agendas. I don't do anything without giving issues genuine liberal consideration. For example, even though I have turned away from communalism, I lived a communal lifestyle 40 years ago ... I figured why not give it a chance, especially in that era where there was no doubt the established conventions were flawed and corrupted. I am not shy about supporting ideas that I think are worthy of consideration, or supporting others in doing the same even when I don't agree with their POV. I can do that because I don't consider my self tied to a political group's ideology. I don't give a crap about what your party spokespersons or the Carl Roves, or any other paid pundit has to say about a political issue, I can think for my self. |
