HTC One X is not comparable to GS3 in hardware or in software. And HTC updates take a long time... if ever.

Plenty of reviews disagree with you. Engadget, theVerge, gsmarena, cnet all seemed to think they are comparable devices and yet the S3 destroyed the One X in sales.

I doubt casual users have the slightest idea about update schedules. The S3 sold 40 million units in a little over six months. These arent all being sold to tech geeks.

Branding matters. When the casual buyer walks into a mobile phone shop, it seems that they are choosing the S3 over other comparable Android handsets. That puts companies like HTC in a tough spot.
