Dick Morris to Newsmax: Fox Departure May Not Be Forever

Dick Morris may be out at the Fox News Channel, but not necessarily forever.
The political analyst and former advisor to Bill Clinton told Newsmax TV’s Steve Malzberg that he met with Fox News chief Roger Ailes last week and learned his contract as a Fox political commentator was not being renewed.
But Ailes also hinted the door was being left open for his possible return someday.
“Nothing is final or fatal are the words he used,’’ Morris revealed on “The Steve Malzberg Show’’ Thursday afternoon. “This industry has its ups and its downs and its twists and its turns and you know nothing is forever.’’
Asked if Morris would consider working for another news network such as CNN, he said maybe.
“Well I’d look at it,’’ Morris said. “I’m not sure I’m all that interested in going on five times a week like I was with Fox. It’s one of the reasons I’m not all that unhappy that a contract wasn’t renewed.’’
Morris is the second high-profile commentator to get the ax from Fox in the past few months, following the parting of Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and running mate of John McCain. He had been sharply criticized for predicting a landslide victory for Romney as a Fox commentator.
Morris — co-author with Eileen McGann of “Here Come the Black Helicopters! ’’ — repeated his belief that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker may be the GOP’s best hope to recapture the White House in 2016.
“I believe that the Republican Party in the last three or four years has been in danger at the national level but a success at the state level,’’ Morris said.
“The progress that they’ve made in reigning in millions, reforming education, getting rid of bad teachers, making education competitive to charter schools, overhauling state finances, holding down taxes …
“When you look at all that, the state-level Republicans have been a real success and nobody epitomizes that more than Scott Walker.’’
Morris is less than impressed with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whose name is continually mentioned as Republican timber in the next White House race.
“Christie’s made a lot noise but it’s Walker who really initiated the fundamental package of changes,’’ Morris said.
“I’m down on Chris Christie because he is so, in my mind, closely related to Obama’s reelection … [He] says he’s a great leader, three or four days before the election — that absolutely was horrific. And it was basically payback for Romney for not naming him vice president.’’
