White Pine Releases CU-SeeMe Version 3.1
Next Generation of Popular Video Client Improves Performance, Enables Interoperability with Standards-based H.323 Clients
NASHUA, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 3, 1997-- White Pine Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:WPNE - news), a leading provider of group conferencing software solutions for the Internet and corporate intranets, today announced the availability of CU-SeeMe(R) V3.1, the next generation of the industry's most popular software-based video client. Release 3.1 includes video, audio, and network performance enhancements, and enables CU-SeeMe users to interoperate with H.323 standards-based clients via White Pine's recently announced MeetingPoint(TM) Conference Server. CU-SeeMe V3.1 is the only cross-platform product capable of H.323 interoperability on both Windows 95/NT and MacOS. CU-SeeMe recently beat out both Microsoft NetMeeting and Netscape Conference as the winner of PC Computing's 1997 Most Valuable Product Award in the Web Communications category.
''CU-SeeMe has long set the standard for Internet video chat. Now with CU-SeeMe Version 3.1, White Pine has again raised the bar for desktop videoconferencing applications,'' said Forrest Milkowski, Director of Product Marketing. ''The combination of CU-SeeMe and MeetingPoint makes group conferencing a compelling tool for corporations and educational institutions. By being the first to offer a complete software-only client/server solution, White Pine has made the benefits of videoconferencing and group collaboration accessible to a whole new segment of Internet and intranet users.''
CU-SeeMe V3.1 has significantly enhanced audio and video performance due to improved network protocols. Performance is further enhanced when CU-SeeMe is used in conjunction with a MeetingPoint Conference Server. The CU-SeeMe interface enables viewing of up to twelve simultaneous video windows.
H-323 compliancy broadens the opportunity for CU-SeeMe users to interact and collaborate with other videoconferencing users, making applications boundaries virtually obsolete. Through the MeetingPoint Conference Server, CU-SeeMe users can now participate in full multi-point group conferences with users of other H.323 clients, including Microsoft's NetMeeting and Intel's Internet VideoPhone.
''CU-SeeMe is the first videoconferencing software product to take advantage of Apple's QuickTime 3.0 technology,'' said Carolyn Goates, product manager, QuickTime, Apple Computer, Inc. ''CU-SeeMe V3.1 and the MeetingPoint Conference Server provide an elegant solution for Macintosh users to collaborate with users of H.323 clients such as Microsoft's NetMeeting, Netscape's Communicator and Intel's Internet VideoPhone.''
