The preferred shares will have a market and value. There is a huge class of investors that seeks predictable return with no loss in capital. Apple stock can't offer that. A new class of shares can. Existing shareholders can sell this dividend paying security to the new class of investors. Einkorn is brilliant. If apple management has any sense, they would go down on that path. Such an announcement will increase stock price by 100 overnight.

Once you understand this, your condescension will go away.
