No, over the period 1978 - 1988. The pipeline started at 750K in 1978 and the increase in domestic production in 1978 was about 450K so net depletion of about 300K elsewhere that year. After that first year, AK increases were more than offset by decreases in the rest of the country. When AK started to decline in 1989, we lost 2 million domestic production in ten years.

Actually, annual increases in the 50's and 60's were much better than the 1978-1988 period. What makes the current increases so surprising is that they are net of depletion which is probably still quite high for the hundreds of thousands of conventional wells out there.
