I'll address this, but you're trying to change the subject: The reason the United States is in such a financial crisis today is SS & Medicare. Period. And no matter how much misdirection you apply, you cannot change that fundamental fact.

As to your comment:

Spending increased and the Cold War ended which was what enabled Clinton to almost balance the budget.

The peace dividend accounted for approximately 1/3 of the closing of the deficit under Clinton, and would never have happened had Reagan not ended the Cold War. Which makes my point: You can't reasonably give Clinton credit for closing the deficit without even mentioning that Reagan's ending the Cold War is what caused it to happen. And of course there were also the Gingrich-inspired cost savings, but that is just more pointless discussion -- it just doesn't amount to anything when compared with SS & MC.

Government programs, by their nature, extend over more than one Congress and more than one presidency.

You guys want to play the blame game, but you don't want to accept blame for the real problems, which are SS & Medicare (and out of control government pensions, another issue altogether) and for which responsibility lies with the Democrats).
