Santa Barbara is heaven on earth I almost went to Brooks Institute there. I spent a month there scuba diving the Channel Islands about 1980 when the spiny lobster were the size of your arm....amazing beauty there above and below. Clear Lake is one of the best lakes in the country, California has some great fisheries for big bass. Before I left Las Vegas I looked around Clear Lake, it was too expensive for me.

You need to bass fish in fresh water.. The Bassmaster Classic is here in 2 weeks if you want that on the water experience, unfortunately I've never qualified for it, but know the players, weather should be nice.
