rhoze,

< far
and away better than trying to coach boys.

Hope h-man is feeling better! He's makes an interesting point. I've coached boys and girls teams. Girls are more challenging....they are complicated. You have to find the balance of pushing on them very hard and then know when to let up and let them know you still love them. They are just as ferocious, competitive, intense, heroic, and passionate about their play. While the game/match is on...there is no difference between boys and girls. It's before and after the games where things are different. If girls lose...they are pissed off just like boys only it doesn't last as long. After a half hour on the bus of sulking, they are are back on their iPhones and on to the next thing. In practices, when you are giving direct instruction on something, they listen...however during practice, there is always some kind of drama going on between different girls that can be lethal..who pairs up with who on drills etc...girls are tough on each other. I had one striker on the soccer team who was a total bitch....very edgy. I pulled her out of a game for dogging it....she sat at the end of the bench and pulled out her cell phone and started texting. I went ape shit. I told her if she ever did that again, she was off the team (she was our high scorer) ...the subs on the bench were astonished. I sat her until the beginning of the second half. When I sent her out, I quietly said to her "Lauren, I was very disappointed and pissed at you.... you are one of the best players on the team and the girls count on you...I want you to go all out when you get out there...you owe it to yourself and the team." She tore it up in the 2nd half...two goals and an assist. Girl teams do worm their way into your heart...all the hard work coaching is totally worth it. The striker still keeps in touch...she graduates from college this June.
