Actually, I would disagree with that characterization. I don't know about Alabama, but Arkansas poses no risk of needing to be bailed out by the federal government. CA and NY both do, and likely, eventually will be. CA and NY have 600B & 300B in debt, respectively. In fact, of the 10 states with highest per capita debt, pretty much every one of them is a solidly blue state. Big states like CA and NY are in a position to borrow to a point they become "too big to fail", and really both have. AR and AL probably aren't going to be able to do that.

Very little. Just an occasional visit to each place for a long weekend off. Haven't been to either in the last 18 months or so. I find both to be rather mundane, overall. It would not bother me to never go to either place again.
