[Modem sales]

<<<
- "Modem sales may be slowing because of a lack of
industry standards and competition from new technologies
(possibly much faster cable modems)," Rodman said.>>>

I remember sitting in the Robertson Stephens Conference when 3Com announced it was buying USR. Somewhere in the questioning, someone asked if it was a merger. The moderator answered a definitive, "No." She went on to say Casey Cowell had come to Benhamou and offered his company for sale.

I thought the Q&A could have ended right there. That said it all.

I'm not sure I agree with your comment re: splitterless, as GTE and others I've spoken with don't see the potsplitter as an issue. By keeping the access on the outside of the building, doesn't this give telcos more control of the market? If so, I would imagine they prefer it as is.

At any rate, I'll be watching TI for any guidance on numbers and how much COMS analog pullback will hurt them.

Thanks for posting.
