Then you are forgetting some of the fundamental behavioral principles of humans.
For the majority of our evolution, we were hunter-gatherers. By observing the few remaining hunter-gatherer societies, we have observed many common characteristics and can extend the to our ancestors.
We were organized into bands that had no hierarchical structure. And everything was shared more or less equally. In fact, those who tried to hoard would run the risk of being thrown out of the band, which was a death sentence.
The reason for this was we were touch and go with starvation. And a good strategy for survival is the band. Even then, it was a near thing. Despite the morphological differences in humans, we are remarkably uniform, genetically speaking. This strongly suggests one or more Darwinnowing events that reduced the umber of extant humans to a few hundred or so.
So there is a strong instinct to be productive. It meant survival. However, there is some motivation to buck the band and not expend effort for the common good. By not giving your all, you are in a better position to survive in an extreme event. As a result, there is a small percentage who try to game the system. They will feign sickness so they can stay behind and screw the women in the band, thus spreading their genes. When there is a surplus, they hoard and don't share when things get scarce. When the others got tired of them gaming the system, they'd toss their sociopathic asses out of the band. But their genes were already propagated. When agriculture, herding or any other technological development reduces the threat of starvation, they move in to monopolize the resources and hog those resources for themselves, their cronies and their offspring. Creating shortages for those who don't do that, despite there being more than enough to go around.
In other words, proto-Republicans.
But, most are not like that. They enjoy being productive. |
