I hear ya, but you would probably not have much choice.

Looking at it from the cops perspective, you are facing a guy that wants to die and wants to kill as many cops as possible. LAPD just did the conference and said they want to take him alive, but I doubt it's going to resolve that way.

Dead men are real quiet.
