I do agree the pace of change is accelerating and machines are getting smarter. However, "singularity" as used in SF literature postulates that machines can intelligently exist independent of humans and fulfill their own needs so I don't think will be at that point 24 years out. I agree we don't have any sense of urgency about this right now given that most of us perceive that this will take a while and all the other problems competing for our attention, but at some point we will have to actively consider whether we want to sustain an active competitive machine intelligence.
