HV,

THE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE PROTOCOL
Way too complicated.

Clean, I think you'd be a great moderator,
I agree

but the thread, or more appropriately the constituents of the thread, did not get a due process for establishing your right to the chair.
I don't think there are rules anywhere talking about how moderators should be chosen. Thinking back to when Allen was selected, if I am remembering correctly so correct me if I am wrong, he was chosen by the admins on SI and we all sort of agreed to it, whether it was by way of a formal vote or not. I would say that turned out pretty well.

Honestly, does due process here make a big hill of beans difference? As long as most of us behave most of the time, the moderator's input will be minimal and it really shouldn't have a real big deal on how the board operates. The community here will be pretty much the same just without the input of one special and important person.

I also know that Allen was shopping the job of moderator around to various contributors here so I would think that he had a successor in mind and think that Clean would have been one of the people he had in mind to take over the board. If people want to vote on something, I say an up or down vote on Clean as the moderator. KISS method always seems to work best in many circumstances. If that is the vote that people will agree to, then I vote yes to be Clean. Bathing is optional ;-).
Just another thing to remember. Some decisions Allen made were popular and some weren't. He also changed his mind on several occasions with input from the contributors here, which, in my mind, is a good trait for a moderator to have. Whoever is the final choice for moderator, let us give him or her a chance to establish themselves in the job.

JMO and reasonable people can disagree. Good luck out there.

Neal
