I don't know who Tim McViegh is or was or whether he was truly white.

However, I do know of one Tim McVeigh. The reason they didn't kill McVeigh quickly was

1) because he was white and so killing him would arouse a lot of unpleasant outrage all around with unpredictable consequences for all parties concerned;

2) because he was given a trial which happened to take up a lot of time to prepare for and prosecute;

3) because the authorities needed time to find out more about McVeigh's connections and accomplices.

Also, as things turned out, there were irregularities in the handling and/or withholding of vital evidence against McVeigh, and this caused delays.

By stark contrast, Chris Dorner was black and so he didn't stand a ghost of a chance from the get-go. It is well-known that the LAPD and not a few whitie folks in the LA area have been notorious for hating blacks and perpetrating and perpetuating acts of violence against them. It was this rabid/morbid hatred against Dorner that precluded any circumstances that might have prolonged his life. Dorner was ordered to surrender or come out. As a former member of the LAPD, Dorner knew that "surrender" and "come out" were synonymous with getting shot and killed. So, it is believed that his pride and self-respect made him shoot himself instead of getting killed by the LAPD.

BTW, McVeigh was largely a self-trained man and is acknowledged, albeit rather grudgingly, as some sort of a home-grown folk hero who fought against what he perceived to be his government's unfair practices and policies. McVeigh's Mom said she was proud of her son!
