Inspired by what some very smart friends of mine have been doing, I've decided to follow suit.

Cutting the cord: Day 1

My 12 year old daughter awoke at 6:30 on this school holiday and turned on the TV to discover the blue screen of cancelled subscription.

I reminded her that we'd cancelled cable. She looked very sad and depressed.

Then I mentioned to her, "but we have Netflix".

She replied, "Oh yeah" with a big smile, turned on Netflix, and that was that.

To DirecTV: So much for your 100 ridiculous all ad channels, interspersed with 100 other channels that remind me that I'm not paying for them, on a horribly unnavigable interface of random channel groupings, for which I have the honor of paying $70 per month to watch mostly commercial television: I'm out.

Looking forward to buying a terrestrial HD antenna (very inexpensive) and Hulu Plus.

Sincerely,

Ex Customer.

P.S. DirecTV: Please stop having your computers call me so that morons can beg me limited time offers to come back. I refuse to have to waste 30 minutes on the phone to renegotiate "special" rates every six months or a year. Netflix charges everyone the same. You should look into it.

P.S.S. DirecTV: Your interface really, really sucks.
