>>>One route that I take in NYC avoids toll bridges - I don't get that with Google Android, it thinks I'm made of money and insists on the toll bridge (same one Men in Black has it headquarters) and at first Apple maps gave the toll route but now Apple maps gives me the non toll route. I don't think it learned from me though because it suggests a variation in the route that I rarely take. Message 28732153
On Android Google Navigation, but that is also true on most navigation systems that I have EVER used like TomTom, Garmin, Magellan, etc.. allow you to select alternative routes by the push of a button or set options to "avoid highways", "avoid tolls", etc... When a navigation system selects a route, it is because it is the fastest way to get there with the least traffic delays. Smart navigation systems know traffic delays, speed limits etc... so when they give a first route it is always the fastest way to get to your destination, unless you've set the route options that I mentioned. Now if Apple Maps is so stupid and inept to give you as a first route a slower longer route that avoids toll bridges, without you asking for one, then Apple Maps not only is it not getting better but it is getting worse.
On the other hand, like most great navigation systems, Android's Google Navigation give you access to alternate routes that include avoiding toll bridges on a push of a button, or you can set the route option of "avoid tolls" and you will never have to worry about driving in toll roads ever again. If Apple Maps does not have similar options and instead gives you a longer slower route by default, then it is an even worse piece of junk than already every person on earth, including Apple's CEO Time Cook, think it is. |
