That means that just a FEW people sock away MOST of the money.

Actually, what it really means is that people with modest incomes become millionaires. At the same time high income wingers become just about as rich. It is because people who understand the value of money understand that status is not worth striving for. I would rather add a thousand dollars to my investment portfolio than spend it on fancy cloths, a "nice" car or other status consumables. I would rather the government use my spending proclivities than the ones they currently use.
