Meathead,

By my reckoning the IDC report is in error. Server revenues are not
17% of systems revenue. In fact, I estimate that server sales account for 8% of system sales and workstations about 2%. I base this on the Q3 financial statement, the Dataquest shipment number, and comments made by Meredith during the last CC to the effect that the server sweetspot was around $ 6,000.

Here is my SWAG:

The Q3 financials state that enterprise sales are
10% of system sales....

This yields 293 M in revenue from enterprise sales. Probably 4/5
of enterprise sales are server sales.

Assuming that unit sales are 1.215 M units:

The ASP of the Enterprise sales is approximately $ 6,003.

The ASP of Desktops and Laptops combined is $ 2,263.

I can not break it down further because I do not have the either the number of desktops shipped or the number of laptops shipped.

Thus the basic hardware ASP is $ 2,263 not $1,540.

Regards,

Jim kelley
