According to this:

The original graphene patent and the rift between industry and academia - Graphene Tracker

Nanotek has the original patent on "Nano-scaled graphene plates".

Nanotek Instruments, Inc.: Private Company Information - Businessweek

And these patents are now controlled by:

Angstron Materials Inc.: Private Company Information - Businessweek

Angstron Materials

Since Nanotek and Angstron are both private companies, there doesn't seem to be an investment angle. However, wouldn't behoove any company (like Apple) who could use the technology just swoop in an buy them out to at least have access to that original patent? Am I putting too much importance on it?
