Embezzlement of public funds is against the law. The local stories are no different than what DC is doing today. Plenty of public employees in Arkansas are in jail for using their position in govt to build a new back porch, a new driveway to their house, buy a new car, or blow it every weekend at a casino. Politicians buying votes by funneling money to their bundlers after the election is no difference.
