Steve,
Maybe I missed it, what does the govt having a list of guns I own do for the good of everyone anyway? Why do you want a registration list in the first place?
I think we had this conversation before. It can help make it tougher (though not impossible) for criminals and crazy people to get firearms. It keeps the law abiding citizens responsible in owning and possessing guns, and it can help law enforcement keep track of where the guns are.

Every law-abiding gun owner should agree that owning a firearm is a HUGE responsibility. I think part of that responsibility includes keeping tracking of firearms as a society.

I realize the potential for abuse and how that might not make gun registration worthwhile, but I'm also seeing how free availability of guns is being abused more and more by a society that is getting crazier by the week.
