If we are spending so much GD money on education why are the poor kids getting screwed?
Excellent question. If you had an interest in learning yourself, I could probably show you why some poor kids thrive in educational programs which are not focused on mo-gd-money, and how nearly every poor kid could achieve at the level of the so called rich kids. Kids that are poorer than poor American kids have been beating the pants off your so called rich kids in the Global Market place of science and technology for decades. Which is why Obama promised to improve Science and Technology in Public Education when he was first campaigning and why renewed this intention in recent speeches. Learning is about growth, kids love to experience growth in every dimension, it is personal. Its too bad so many are robbed of that natural experience, its too bad you don't get it. The mo-gd-money programs are rejected by kids who know the money isn't really about them, and who don't find any thing personally rewarding or valuable in these mo-money-programs. They hate them, and they don't graduate from them. Learning is social, it is about encouraging curiosity, developing confidence through successfully meeting challenges on a regular basis, accomplishing goals inspired by hopes, developing competencies along the way and becoming an autonomous learner who will continue to grow in knowledge and skill throughout their lives. When you engender that personality type at an early age, children become un-stop-able.
I live in a community with a lot of immigrants. After school my kid studies until bed time most nights. When I go to check mail as late as nine or ten the immigrant kids are out playing, their moms and dads are out too, socializing and having a good time. I look at my kid and remind her daily this is her opportunity to take advantabge of a good education so that she will have doors of opportunity open when she leaves public school. I talk to these other parents who frequently complain that the system isnt fair because they aren't given the same opportunities as others do. In a few years their kids will be repeating that complaint. They go to the same school my kid goes to, their opportunity is equal to hers, and they are wasting it. Sadly, like you, they have no idea. |
