Here's a surprise, the Beach Boys didn't kill anyone. And they were hardly hipsters or cultural/political icons. WTF does it have to do with science, anyway??
From my recollection, which is still clear :-) , the Beach Boys were at that time a (very talented) pop band of surfer-car culture, that was generally not accepted by the San Francisco FM radio alternative somewhat improvised, purposefully chaotic rock culture which my g-g-g-generation subscribed to, along with blues, folk and the British invasion.
