And if the problem were simply "old schools being more expensive to maintain", then why did DC react violently to Michelle Rhee when she tried to close 15% of DC schools that were operating at 25% or less of their capacity? From what I understand, Rhee ruffled feathers big time. When you ruffle feathers, people react illogically. I suspect blame can be found on both sides. The problem here is teachers and their unions. Rhee went to the unions and proposed a doubling in compensation for good teachers in exchange for the "right" to fire lousy teachers by eliminating tenure-based protections. The unions raised hell, and DC decided to stay with the failed program, and of course, fired Rhee. Unions are set up to protect their members, including bad teachers, just as the GOP is set up to protect the rich. Clearly, the GOP has been the more effective org. since teachers don't get paid shit. The problem isn't the school facilities. The problem isn't a shortage of money. The problem is piss-poor management by incompetent school boards; management which is essentially in bed with the unions. As usual, you're wrong and unwilling to admit it. The problem is the poor schools are not getting the resources they need. Your comments up above are more of the ideological shit that apparently they teach from when you are a babe in a crib.
