The idea is to make people cut back on their use of carbon fuels, thru the um, whatchamacallit, marketplace.
Uh.. since when do punitive taxes represent a market?

It's MARKET INTERFERENCE. It's creating a false market, subsidized by punitive taxes, and or taxpayer dollars!!

You want to solve the matter of carbon emissions?? Then get the gov't out of the way and let an energy dense, cheaper, alternative compete with hydro-carbons.. We have had Thorium and Molten Salt Reactor tech for decades, the energy from which could have been converted into any number of liquid/gas fuels, creating a closed carbon system (not pumping anything out of the ground)..

Or if we choose to let the gov't do ANYTHING related to energy, it should be to offer a substantial prize to the first entity (person and/or corporation) that can meet the desired specification that results in an economically cheaper alternative to hydrocarbons.
