You write with complete and utter ignorance on this topic. I was at the heart of the hippie movement firsthand; though I was in high school at the time. I spent plenty of days on Telegraph Ave. and happenings in Berkeley and in the S.F. Haight, the beach, GG Park and the Fillmore. I was part of many who were part of the Northern Califronia "flower power" and Love movement. I was maybe one degree of separation from Janis and Jerry. And BTW, contrary to false stereotypes, I did not do acid or avoid daily showers -- and nobody pressured me.
I loved reading Ken Kesey's "The Electric Koolaid Acid Test" and felt I knew and loved them all. I recommend it to all.
Now I'm not saying the hippie movement was perfect, or that some were not destroyed by alcohol and hard drugs -- and I actually do know a couple blown minds who later became Ted Nugents. But by a huge margin, most just went on to the bell shaped curve that is American life-- the arts, science, doctors, atheletes, lawyers, mechanics, musicians, psychologists, farmers, fathers and mothers, Grandmothers and Grandfathers.
