Hi ponokee; The real problem for first time shooters, I think, is that they have this hesitation in their heads and it shows in their body. Maybe they think that holding the gun as if it were dangerous is going to reduce the recoil. And that guy who fell over at the indoor firing range (breaking the glass door), he looked like he was preparing for the recoil by leaning backwards. It's the kind of thing you'd do if you thought someone was about to punch you in the face. No, shooting guns is fun, you have to contribute to the momentum of that bullet heading downrange.

A couple years ago I bought a military surplus center-fire bolt-action rifle because it felt so nice to aim it when I picked it up in a pawn shop. When I did research on it on the internet there were a lot of warnings about how nasty it was to shoot but I've enjoyed it immensely. Then again I've never put a full box of ammo through it in one day. If I ever take a first timer shooting with it I'll have them dry fire it before I load it for them. Those old bolt action rifles were used as the first rifle for literally millions of men. I don't remember reading autobiographies where guys ever complained about their recoil. The noise will ruin your hearing if you don't wear plugs. But shooting them is not a difficult thing. I have to wonder about who is filming/teaching these victims.
