Re: Foley-
I became a Glenn Foley fan while at Rutgers University a while ago. Our football program is the pits, and every year, if we started off with a couple of wins, there was all this talk of bowls (That year, we had some ex-Miami QB transfer in). Well, B.C. came in while we were all so cocky, and Foley & Co. wiped us out. Afterwards, Foley said this:
"Everyone is talking Rutgers' going to a Bowl. The only bowl they're going to is the one I just got off of." What a line. I thought, there's the fire I want in my players.
He went on that season to beat Notre Dame (I believe they were #1 at the time), and seriously threatened another #1 the following week.
I think he's been a winner at every level he's been given a legitimate shot. Not that he's going to put up the big #'s, but similar to Montana (not that he's going to be another Joe), he has that knack of making the big play. And that's something you just can't teach.
My feeling is that especially with O'Donnell being yet another great athelete without the winner's head, I'd rather go with perhaps a lesser athelete with the confidence and poise to be in there in the pressure cooker. Maybe he's(Foley) not the greatest QB in the league, but he's a real competitor. If only he can stay on the field....
Enough arse-smoochin' for one day. |
