"Starving" these programs? Are you serious?

"These programs" were supposed to essentially pay for themselves out of the taxes imposed by the legislation that created them. Now, half the government's budget is being spent on them. The overall cost of Medicare was to have been an affordable $12 Billion by 1990; it turned out to be $98 Billion.

How does Congress "starve" a program that was supposed to be essentially self-funding from the payroll tax? Your effort to suggest the Republicans have somehow tried to avoid funding them is absurd. The Republicans have been just as guilty as the Democrats of allowing these programs to continue long after they became technically insolvent.

Reagan allowed SS to continue with greatly increased tax rates when it should have been shut down in 1980. Both parties have been total idiots when it comes to SS & Medicare. They both need to be phased out starting NOW. Bush tried to save SS and the fucking Republicans wouldn't even support their own president on it.

No, the Republicans and Democrats are all equally guilty of this theft from future generations. That's why I can't stand either party. At least one reason.
