Bateman, since Kurlak has made it known that in his universe the time to buy will be sometime in the next 1-2 years...logically speaking, one could make the argument that we should not hear from Kurlak until November of 1998. Right?
I mean, since he...to use the term he himself used in Fortune a few months back..."pulled the plug" on the chip sector, one would expect that once the plug is pulled, it's pulled. Right?
Either you pull the plug on the sector or you don't. You're either on the bus or you aren't. He's off the bus (among other things).
What did he say "time to take the chips off the table" or some pathetic attempt at humor (to take a phrase from Crimes and Misdemeanors, "when it bends, it's funny; when it breaks, it's not funny". That statement breaks...or more accurately, like most things he says, breaks wind). Fine. Chips are off, you and your salesforce can pretty much shut down shop, right, since there are no chip stocks you like and you yourself have put a 1-2 year time frame on the "so when's the time to buy again?" answer.
From what I can piece together INTC, TXN, MU, LSI, ALTR, VLSI, etc. are in his doghouse. Fine. Okay Tom Kurlak we know you don't like these stocks. And since IMHO his fundamental analysis is poor and his estimates are both tragedy and farce (anyone remember when the 1998 Tom Kurlak estimate on MU was 4.55?)...it doesn't really matter to me what comes out in his "research", since I'm operating under the assumption that any further comments from him are merely attempts to gradually prove himself right by whittling these guys down; it's merely a Kurlaking.
So fine. You don't like these stocks. When you do like them, let us know.
Hey, I think I feel a song coming on:
I know a guy who/they call the axe He lays investors/on their backs But he don't use jelly/of any sorts 'Cause his equipment/ain't in his shorts He uses research reports
It helps if your a fan of the Flaming Lips...
...and possibly Thomas Pynchon <g>
Good trading,
