Al, I've read the book, and the anecdotes cited in it sound largely legit. The analysis and interpretations of them are all slanted, of course, but I expected that. (The only criticism I have of the book is that the last chapter or two rambled a little and lacked some of the good content that the rest of the book had.)
What surprised me, however, is that even after the book was released, political events that followed confirmed the narrative that Ed Klein crafted in his book. Obama continued to act as if he was still learning while in office. His administrations response to the Benghazi attack was a prime example.
Not only that, but Ed Klein wrote a follow-up editorial after Obama's November 2012 victory and almost perfectly predicted what Obama would do in the following months:
Because of Obama’s detached and impersonal leadership style, no one in Congress fears him, and the Republicans who control the House are unlikely to roll over and do his bidding. However, if Obama digs in his heels, refuses to compromise and work with the Republicans, goes over the head of Congress and takes his case to the public through a kind of permanent campaign, and then, after all that, fails to get his agenda through Congress, this country is headed for a very dismal next four years. By the way, Clinton calling Klein a "liar" is so obviously hypocritical, I'm astounded that you didn't pick up on that ...
