More technical information from Brocade:

I was on their site this morning, looking for details of their frame size and noticed that it was now searchable. I found the following interesting articles explaining their rationale for not using class 1 service and their "multicast" service. The articles were written by Kumar Malavalli and I would highly reccommend them, for people interested in the technical details of FC, and why an FC company targetting the storage market would not use class 1:

They also have an outstanding comparison table called I/O Technology At A Glance - comparing FC, GE, ATM and FDDI. Includes a 1997 cost comparison and a timetable for FC product development (2 GB in 1998 and 4 GB in 2000). It is a .pdf file but you can download Adode Acrobat from their site.
