Wrong again bucko. First of all, you must understand two things. The first is that the only reliable sources regarding the good General's famous last words were Apaches, most of whose cavalry were not renowned for their fluency in The Mother Tongue. It would have been quite silly for Custer to speak to the foe in English, as there would be little chance he would be understood. The second is that, unbeknownst to many, Mr. Custer prided himself on knowing a bit of the local lingo. What might sound to your average Joe like "Ow! Cut it out!" was actually "Awkatitut!!" which he said to the dispatching Apache immediately prior to his tragic demise. This is northern Apache dialect and I believe it translates roughly as, "Not too much off the top, okay??"
