I like the way GDXJ is strongly outperforming GDX on this upmove. I think all the bragging by the miners about $400 cash costs is going hurt their performance for quite awhile as people have finally woke up to the fact that profits are mediocre at best and cash costs are meaningless. I think the resource plays that are trading at a few bucks an ounce are where the upside is as the gold price recovers. If gold miners are making $200 per ounce profit at $1500 gold are they going to outperform as gold goes to $2000? Maybe a little, since they are massively oversold. Are they going to use some of that money to buy resources currently trading at $20/ounce for $100/ounce. I think so and I will take the five fold gain with no complaints.
