Paul and all, I don't know where this observation is going (in respect to Intel), but we sure seem to have a lot of new home PC manufacturers coming into the market. Toshiba has new desktops (with TV and radio?); Motorola has new desktops for both Apple OS and Win NT; just saw an ad for a Sony PC in my wife's Vanity Fair (first ad I've seen, they really know where to launch a product!).

Must be some significant market research indicating strong growth going on to get all these box manufacturer's jumping into a relativly low margin category. Then again, with anticipated convergence between TV/PC/Communications/just about everything else, I guess Sony/MOT/Toshiba and others can't afford to be on the outside of PC technology.

I just wonder how all these guys expect to get to a market share level where they can support the marketing/manufacturing cost associated with any product category. The box manufacturing marketplace is getting very diluted; bad for HP, Compac; I guess good for Intel.

Any thoughts?

John
